Playing the Victim

in these darker days
too often have I looked inside,
finding the wounds
of impersonal slights,
I have drawn the hurt
upon myself -
welcoming it with open arms,
wallowing in its pain -

to what end,
who am I
to interpret the world,
turning it into a burden
I feel
I alone
must carry,

I am not
the axis
upon which
the world turns

Bathing

before the day awakens,
I soak in the silence
of the darkness,

its peace
washes over my pores,
I am light

though I crave
the warmth of the sun,
I sit calm
bathing in this silence

enjoying the reverie
of quiet memory

A Hope

when my soul comes to rest
may it find its way here
where the sunsets
are a pink flame
upon the horizon
and the air is clear,
the winds calm

it was born in this place
of deep blue waters,
nurtured in this land
of piney evergreens

here let it rest
amid fond memories,
gazing with love
across the bay
