Escape

sleep to dream of days
when the weights will fall away -
nothing will keep us

A Thank You

your words are a battering ram
on the heart
each time they strike home -
in their well-muscled fury -
they chip away a piece
of the weakness found there,
revealing the strong fortifications beneath;
please, do continue your assault
it will fail to break me.
you make me stronger.
thank you.

Pop

In aging, in life, in all:
a strong example ignored
before my eyes as the old oak
tree in the yard -
quiet,
steady,
there.
That I had paid attention
to his wisdom sooner,
what an easier passage
I might have made.
