dark dreams
invade the mind,
yesterday's failures
jockey for prominent placement
in the front of memory,
seeking to sink their teeth
into the light of the soul;
where is your strength
in the night
when the darkness
is everything;
how do you keep your light

Winter Nights
the silence of a winter night
stretches beyond
the farthest reaches of the ear;
all is calm stillness;
the harsh bite of the cold,
the wicked bursts of wind
have faded to nothingness
as they wait for the rise of the sun
to take up their assault anew;
in these moments it is safe
to step out and take the air,
absorbing the calm -
resetting the self
from the chaos of existence -
don't fear the darkness
embrace all it has to offer
