Picking Up Roots

Frigidity

the darkness lifts
to reveal
a frigid blanket
of white;

exposure
to this beautiful world
will hurt,

it's why even the stars
huddled behind clouds
last night -

all things
feel the need
for self-preservation

Winter

gray backdrop, white world
blue waters, now tinged with gray
            a winter portrait

Reward

freedom comes from
emptying the mind
of those worries
beyond your control;

this is a difficult lesson
learned with repeated practice
over time;

you must not
fear the work
if you seek
the reward
