Barren Beauty

hungry branches
stripped of leaves
reach their fingers
to the empty gray skies
along the silent roadways of winter,

there is a barren beauty
in their snow-covered limbs,
the reassurance they provide:
there are still four seasons -
we haven't yet
wiped them from the Earth -

it is stark
it is beautiful
there is peace
it is home

Home

warm yellow light
is a beacon in the dark
calling the wanderer home;

it beckons to the lost,
it is a safe haven
amidst the constant storms
that surround,

a guide in the darkness
stretching our comforting
fingers of light,
a pathway home;

it is safe here
when you are ready,
come home

Giant’s Stairs

beneath a clear sky
deep blue water
undulates gently

rising up,
it pummels the weathered rock
in white foam,

the perfection of this beauty
is undeniable

in this action,
I know
I am home
