Regrets

there is no announcement when
we begin the back half
of our lives,
so today must be the day
we begin removing regrets -

when we come to our end,
there is no room
for looking back,
wishing we could change,
wondering what
we might have been -

what dreams
have been put on pause,
the life we wish we led,
start now,
tomorrow is no guarantee,
the end could be closer
than we know,

stop delaying,
chase after your dreams,
let your regret be
that you never caught them,
not that you never
took up the chase

Unclouded Eyes

there is clarity
in the cold darkness
of a November morning;

before the sun hints
at the night sky
the cold bites
at exposed skin
awakening the mind,
driving out the clouds
of sleep
weighted by the trials
of days gone by;

in this dark silence
the crisp air makes
anything feel possible,
all paths are open -
free from doubt -

lean in,
take the first step
towards becoming 
who you see
with these unclouded eyes

for more:

for having seen more,
done more,
accumulated more,

there is no final measuring stick -
no comparison tool -
with which to measure yourself
against others

perhaps, history will remember you...
for a moment,

you won't know it,

so now what will you do 
with today,
will you fill it
