Exposed

I was ripped open by Life,
a deft hand
cut straight to the core;
I watched the blade sink deep;
only once it touched my soul
did I understand:
I had always been exposed

Four Letters

four letters
to form a word,
all different,
all equal -
though small -
missing even one
destroys the power
of the word;

four letters
can change the world,
can fill us up,
can break us apart,
can bring us together,
can keep us moving on,

four letters
essential to this life -
the root of existence -

four letters,
you must feel;

four letters,
you must give to the world;

four letters,
nothing apart,
everything together;

four simple letters:

o
v
e

Rainy Days

it is not enough to dance in the sunlight,
we must find joy in the rain
and warmth in the deepest cold,
only then will we know living;

heavy gray days
are an opportunity
to search ourselves
for the light of our better angels;

to live up to them -
to find the brightness
on the most raw of days -
is to live a good life
