Light

choose love,
put others first,
give of your self -
be greedy
for the good feelings
that come 
from having done
for others -
the cost of anger is too high,
it steals too much of life;
opening your heart
protects it;
be light,
be constant,
be love

Foundation

scars,
invisible markers
upon the heart,
these thick reminders -
earned through living -
are what make us;

don't wish away
experiences lived -
no matter their hurt;
the feelings evoked
are the foundation
of who we've become

Distraction

how can we be peace
in a world intent on noise,
a world that leaves us
so hungry for distraction
this chaos becomes real;

how will we know reality,
how will we find calm
amongst these waves;
have we accepted
this new existence
of constant motion
as our preferred reality;

do we remember
what we are missing -
if we did,
would we care -

where is the heart,
what is left of our soul,
are we bankrupted;
have we sacrificed our lives
beyond the noise
to empty distraction
