Countdown

another flirtation -
this one enhanced
by the pain
of others -

the unrealized concern -
biding its time
in the dark recesses
of the mind -
finds its way
to the fore;

the sands
of life's hourglass
always fall,
don't take a single grain
for granted;

they do not count up,
only down

Cancun Morning

a sharp crescent moon
backlights the dark armies
of clouds
marching across
the morning sky;

the air is thick
with the warm potential
of the coming day;

Nature's silence
stretches to
a slowly pinkening horizon:

a wave crashes,
a bird calls,
the wind moves
through the palms;

to experience this moment
is to know beauty

One

to find a sliver of peace
know calm
within the mind,

tie no emotions
to outcomes,
see what is before you
for what it is,
attach no desire to it,

understand you are one
with the world
