Spring Snow

spring snow
weighs heavy upon
the green bows
of pine trees,
a gray blanket covers the sky,
the distant waters
don't offer a ripple,

stillness surrounds

the last mourning cry
of winter
as it says goodbye

Changing Seasons

the sky is clear,
an endless blue,
the sun burns unencumbered
by Winter's cold

birdsong has returned
to rest upon
lifeless limbs
awaiting Spring's buds

a season has died,
a new one begins,
life is returning

what did we learn,
what will we carry forward
to ensure we are not
just counting the passing
of time

Barren Beauty

hungry branches
stripped of leaves
reach their fingers
to the empty gray skies
along the silent roadways of winter,

there is a barren beauty
in their snow-covered limbs,
the reassurance they provide:
there are still four seasons -
we haven't yet
wiped them from the Earth -

it is stark
it is beautiful
there is peace
it is home
