Holding On

your love fills me,
making me light
so I can fly,

it is everything I need
to make the most
of this moment
and all those
still to come;

you are the steel
in my spine,
you are what drives me
forward;

I am so much less
without you,
I will always work
to hold on,
to earn this

Steel

this body is a shield;
what it doesn't reveal
are the fault lines
of the soul,
the fragile cracks
tracing random patterns
around the heart,
kept from breaking
by the steel of the mind
forged by the fires of life,
trained to understand
what is outside
can only break you
if you give it purchase within
