Beginning

living comes down to beginning;
if we don't start,
how can we finish;

if we don't begin the search,
how will we find ourselves
before our ultimate ending;

it would have been better yesterday,
tomorrow may be too late,
now is as good a time as any

Rain

ears stretching
into the darkness
seeking the soothing patter
of raindrops upon the roof,
hoping their rhythm
will bring rest
to a restless mind;
a comfortable backdrop
for dreaming

Old Bones

spring's glistening drops of dew
have become a harsh frost
settling deep within the bones;

the sun is slower to warm
though I find myself
in less of a hurry
to move through my day,
content now to linger
over a fleeting minute,
absorbing more
of all that surrounds;

the sharper the cold
the more welcome
the warmth
