Worldview

distant thunder rolls
across the brightening skies
of the dawn gloaming,

is this an ominous beginning
to a new day,
or the clearing out
of yesterday's toxins
so that we might start fresh,

it's all in how
you view the world

New Day

we begin again,
a new gift
presented to us
with the dawning
of a fresh day,
what will we do with this one;

how often will opportunity knock
before it grows tired of waiting
for our response;

the sun catches the edge of a cloud,
the day is coming,
will we take our first step
towards our beginning

the trees are shadows
against the brightening skies,
a new day is coming
carrying with it
the same questions:
how will we make this one better
than the one that came before;
what will we do
to earn a beautiful sunset;
what are we willing
to put into today
to feed our soul,
to clear out the darkness
within our mind,
to put solid ground
beneath our feet
to understand,
to find joy
and a sliver
of peace
