Small Steps

will this life be well-lived
if it remains an unfinished dream?

the mind dances with ideals
as the body brawls with reality;
if the two never meet -
never find a middle ground -
will it all have been for nothing?

each step is progress -
no matter how small -
keep taking them

Noise

whispered calm -
the total darkness
of the dawn
carries hints of peace,
perhaps tumult
will not own the day;
for now,
chaos rests;

we may breathe deep this peace,
but must understand
it is fleeting
breaking day -
its light -
will bring noise

Keeper of the Cage

the mind is a cage
in which we dream,
restrained by the bars of our fears,
we lack the strength
to move beyond,
shaking them off
as the vicious nothings they are -

this does not mean
we have not achieved,
just that we have not soared
to the heights of our dreams

are our lives less fulfilled?
a question
for the keeper of the cage
